At UWC Costa Rica, we create a more peaceful world by bringing together an intentionally diverse community where we celebrate differences with more than 70+ nationalities represented and 80% of our students receiving scholarship support. We provide a transformative educational experience grounded on experiential learning to empower our students to become empathic agents of change committed to shaping a better future.
We live in difficult and uncertain times. A global pandemic has changed every aspect of our daily lives while shining an even bigger spotlight on significant global challenges: inequality, the climate crisis, immigration, racism, and intolerance. At the same time, worldwide, we hear morally bankrupt leaders who use narratives of fear, division, and hate to fracture our world further. Some days it is difficult to keep hope and adjust to so many changes and challenges.
At UWC Costa Rica, we believe that hope lies within our youth. We bring together teens from 70+ countries, all religions and identities, and across the socio-economic spectrum to live and learn together. To become one community. We empower them as leaders and global citizens who are curious, ambitious, capable of critical thinking and empathy, capable of leading through personal example, and practice both individual and mutual responsibility. They are dreamers who do!
Living in an intentionally diverse community and through our distinctive educational model, our students develop empathy, critical thinking, intercultural communication, problem-solving, and conflict transformation skills. As alumni, they are resilient global citizens who are comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zones to build bridges to create equitable policies and projects that give voice and empower the most vulnerable.
