Project Report | Mar 1, 2013
Distemper in Huay Pakoot

By Sophie Birkett | Charitable Trust manager

We wish we had happier news to present to you for the first report of 2013 but the following re-iterates the need for the work the team are doing in the field. Following the dog neutering /vaccinations last year, the dogs were healthy upon the arrival of the New Year.

However, around the end of January 2013, several dogs based at the school began showing signs of illness.  Symptoms included coughing, sneezing, weeping eyes, excessive snot and loss of weight.  Not long after that, the puppies in Huay Pakoot (Midge and Archie) began showing similar symptoms. Attempts to feed them proved futile, and medication purchased by Project Nadia Khan had no effect. Both dogs passed away. A volunteer with a background in the animal health field believed that the disease was ‘Distemper’, and it was noted that these dogs did not receive that vaccination during the vets visit. No other dogs have shown symptoms in Huay Pakoot.

Using future donations, we can look towards getting more dogs vaccinated against more illness, which will prevent such tragedies from occuring. Thank you for your support.

Bonus Day - March 13th: GlobalGiving will match donations at 30% up to $1,000 per donor per project!
