Summary

The number of families fleeing Venezuela is accelerating. Every day, ~2,000 people leave the country, unsure of what the future holds. As the UN's migration organization, IOM is working throughout the region to promote the wellbeing and uphold the dignity of Venezuelan refugees and migrants. The Venezuela Response is critically underfunded compared to other displacement crises. Your generosity helps IOM provide desperately needed humanitarian assistance to those forced to leave their homes.

Challenge

The ongoing political, human rights and socio-economic situation in Venezuela has caused a mass exodus -The largest in Latin American and Caribbean history. Many leave their homes on foot, traversing thousands of treacherous miles in search of a better future. COVID-19 has strained host countries' ability to provide social services to arriving refugees and migrants and many Venezuelans who have been displaced struggle to meet their basic needs.

Solution

IOM is on the ground providing humanitarian assistance for Venezuelan refugees and migrants. This includes meals, medical attention, hygiene and sanitation kits, and shelter, as well as protection for vulnerable groups such as women, children, LGBTQ individuals and those with disabilities. Collaboration is essential to execute this regional emergency response plan; IOM co-coordinates the efforts of 200+ aid organizations in 17 countries, including Venezuelan diaspora-led organizations.

Long-Term Impact

As of 2021, the UN's Response for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela has reached 2.6 million people, 53% of whom are women and girls, with lifesaving and life-changing services. Additional investment will support IOM in extending food security, health assistance, humanitarian transportation, nutrition support, protection, shelter and hygiene, and sanitation to 3.5 million additional vulnerable refugees and migrants.
