Fort Comfort Vision: Fort Comfort will offer affordable housing in a community for our veterans (and spouses). Units will be available to accommodate veterans with disabilities. At Fort Comfort our veterans will find the camaraderie in a community of their brothers and sisters who have also served our nation.
I struggle to put into words what we face every day in striving to serve our veterans. These men and women serve on foreign soil to protect our freedoms we enjoy daily and often take for granted here in America. When they return they all too often face an uphill battle in returning to a "normal" life. The horrific memories of the sights they have seen, the sounds they have heard, the smells that have encompassed them. These all lead to hurdles they must overcome in order to return to "normal
There is no "band aid" fix, this is nothing we can leave to bureaucratic organizations to solve. The most effective solution for those who need us the most is a one on one approach to help them regain their own footing and independence. An environment of understanding and support. Peer to peer solutions seem to have the most dramatic effect and long-term solution to what our veterans are facing. The comradery that helped them through their darkest hours in a foreign land - can also help them
Population served - Low income veterans of the US Military without regard to race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation. Some residents will be suffering from physical disabilities associated with military service. Age will be all ages - including children and elderly. A safe community offering supportive services to veterans residing at the community in affordable housing. . Primary outcome will be long term affordable and sustainable housing for military veterans and families.
