The first of everything in the aftermath of disaster challenges our emotions and physical wellbeing. The first of each birthday and holiday celebration is tough as families and survivors of tramatic impact adapt to an existence without their loved one. The grief cycle seems to start again, and again.
For a family of three, mom and two children, the impact of last year's tornado was very traumatic. They lost a husband and father. The tornado season ushered into north Georgia with typical severity. Days before the annual remembrance, severe weather alerts and sirens grasped for attention of local residents. Many within the community remembered. They recalled the heartache and reached out to this family.
Beyond mental health support, GRACE establishes lasting relationships. We are there for the tough times. We celebrate the fun times. We cheer for the basketball star who knows her daddy is smiling throughout the heavens. We celebrate the son as he achieves academic recognition. We routinely communicate with mom to let her know she is not forgotten. We celebrate her beauty as she adapts to life after disaster and crisis.
Intervention is not a one-size fits all process. Those hurting need us to meet them where they're at and at various times of their journey. Your support ensures the survivors are not forgotten.
