The increasing rate of child abuse cases in Nasarawa and Keffi Local Government is increasing daily as older Men and youths are taking advantage of younger girls from vulnerable household to abuse them leaving their families hopeless. These program will involve community advocacy to end violence, improve dialogue and caregivers forum to develop their capacity on child protection and stakeholders engagment so that children will live free of any form of abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect.
There are lots of sexual abuse cases, gender base violence in communities of Doma, Kokona, Nasarawa and Keffi Local Government of Nasarawa State in Nigeria. Several cases of sexual abuse by adult or gender based voilence among children are been reported on an alarming rate and Caregivers as well as stakeholders do not have adequate capacity to handle such cases, this has led to the increasing risk of children been susceptible to all forms of abuse.
The project will promote child protection system at all levels. It will strengthen community based child protection structures and mechanisms and mobilize them for prevention, early intervention and protection of girls and young women from GBV especially child marriage, child labour, sexual abues and child trafficking. System strengthening will be central to any projects related to child protection. This project will work with children and young women /girls and stakeholders to aware and build.
The project will develop the capacity of 76 stakehoders, 300 caregivers from the 4 Local Government areas on child protection issues, ways of preventing children from abuses and ways by which cases can be reported. The project will ensure the formation of Child Protection Committee at the Local Government and Community level with the responsibility to mobilize, sensitize and hold monthly meeting on progress so far on activity done. Young persons will be trained on child protection.
