The project will provide emergency mental health and psychosocial support to 100 Nepalese women and girls with mental health issues who were subjected to violence and who have subsequently been abandoned in the streets. We will provide counselling, therapeutic services and legal support to the women and girls. We will facilitate them to experience recovery and reintegrate them back in their own family and community to lead an independent and quality life.
In Nepal, violence against women and girls is common due to social, cultural, religious and gender norms. In Nepal, 48% of women experience violence sometime in their life including sexual assaults and abuse. The violence has led to a vicious cycle of poverty and created serious pre-conditions of poor mental health among women and girls. Through the project, 100 women and girls with mental health problems will experience recovery and autonomy who were previously abandoned, locked and chained.
KOSHISH provides counselling and therapeutic support for women who have experienced violence and developed mental health problems. We also provide them medical, legal and income generation support. They receive nutritional food, medicine, physical health check-ups, counselling support, clothes and accommodation during their stay for treatment. After their recovery, they are reintegrated back into their own communities with newly acquired skills, sense of being and mental health wellbeing.
The project will support 100 women and girl who experienced violence and developed mental health and psychosocial issues for leading quality life and being included in the community on an equal basis as others.
