2025 Spring report

By Cindy Barotte | Project Leader

Dear donor,

Thank you so much for your generosity! We are very touched that you have chosen to sponsor our cause.

In this report, you'll find five caregiver testimonials that illustrate the importance of our work for people with Alzheimer's disease and their loved ones. We also share an example of a commentary on a work of art that enables persons living with Alzheimer's to stimulate their memory and exchange with others.

"A suggestion to improve the visits? Above all, offer us more!"

"I would like to continue and suggest exploring other periods, as well as modern works like those of Picasso, Dalí, and Dubuffet, for example."

"It makes you want to step into museums and see artworks differently. It also becomes a topic of discussion with my loved ones."

"I hope to take part in a second session... Sharing with others while staying at home and feeling alive! Thank you for this wonderful cultural and social initiative."

"J'ai trouvé cette méthode très instructive. Cela permet de réfléchir en même temps qu'on découvre l'œuvre. On regarde d'une autre façon les tableaux"

Below you will find an example of our approach to the discovery of a work of art. This content is available on our online tour application: This is a commentary on a famous work by Edouard Manet entitled Berthe Morizot with a bouquet of violets painted in 1872 :

Can you describe this picture in a few words ?

Text to help you: Detail the young woman's face and expression. Then focus on the garment and the bouquet of violets. Finally, consider the background, or rather the absence of a background. Can you describe this painting in a few words ?

This painting is a bust portrait of a young woman dressed in black. The contrasts between light and shadow highlight her delicate face. Her pale complexion is enhanced by a touch of pink on her cheeks. Her intense gaze is framed by wavy locks escaping from a black hat adorned with ribbons. Her dark eyes stare out at the viewer. Her expression is calm. A dark veil surrounds her neck. A white bodice is visible beneath a thick black shawl. A bouquet of violets is pinned to her outfit. The blurred background is clean and uncluttered. The painter's strokes are visible and light. We're looking at Berthe Morizot, an Impressionist painter. Let's discover one of her works entitled “La Psyché”, painted in 1876.

Manet's depiction of the face breaks with tradition. The model gives an impression of life. What do you think ?

Notice the rapid brushstrokes and blurred contours. Ask yourself what effect this has. Ask yourself why this style of painting is surprising.

Manet shook up the codes of portraiture. Contrary to academic rigor, he adopted a free, rapid brushstroke. The contours of Berthe Morisot's face are blurred. These elements give an impression of movement and life. The artist rejects the smooth, detailed modeling characteristic of academicism. He does not blend the transitions between light and shadow, but leaves the brushstrokes visible. The face emerges in small strokes, and nothing appears fixed. This approach influenced the Impressionists, who continued his quest to capture light and spontaneity. His work can be contrasted with Alexandre Cabanel's 1895 portrait of the Countess de Keller.

With Manet, black is no longer a neutral hue; it becomes a rich, expressive color. What gives this impression ?

To help you: Notice the nuances of black, the effects of matter, texture and depth. In this work, black doesn't hide the model, but reveals him. It becomes a rich, expressive color.

With Manet, black ceases to be a simple working base and becomes a vibrant, expressive material, a color in its own right. The artist plays with a subtle range to create effects of matter and depth. Variations in hue and brushstrokes suggest the texture of the hat. In “The Dead Bullfighter”, painted in 1860, matte and satin blacks structure the composition. Manet departed from academic conventions. With him, black no longer serves merely to mark shadows. It is no longer a uniform, opaque hue, as in Ingres' Grande Odalisque. In his work, black dialogues with the light background, highlighting the luminous face of berthe Morizot.

This extract gives you an insight into our method of cognitive stimulation for people with Alzheimer's disease.

If you wish, we would be pleased to invite you to take part in oneline visits planned throughout the year. You can join us in these groups if you have a loved one with Alzheimer's disease.

Warmly

Cindy Barotte
