We are very excited to launch a brand new website that offers curated arts-integrated lessons and activities for educators, parents and concerned adults. Arts-based multiple literacy techniques can reach learners in every classroom, household and community. This new tool will put valuable lessons at the fingertips of users, organized for easy search by subject area and age group. Expert Story Tapestries artists will give direct feedback, answer questions, and offer online courses.
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has stated the dropout rate is "unsustainably high for a knowledge-based economy and still unacceptably high in our African-American, Latino, and Native-American communities." There are many challenges to change these facts. Communities struggle to find the right resources, and to afford them. Some communities are so remote they simply do not have access to experts that can provide hands-on assistance. We'll create a virtual classroom for students everywhere.
Our new website will provide online curated lesson plans, stories, and videos. These lessons will be organized to match up with local standards and curriculum so users can easily find what they need. We'll provide a virtual classroom experience so teachers and staff can get personal feedback and guidance. Parents will be able to access activities to engage their children at home, listening to stories together and supporting academics at play. Youth will engage in effective arts-based lessons.
Key resources will be provided for free, others for a nominal $3/month membership fee. These materials will increase opportunities for participants to utilize the arts-based tools available through Story Tapestries. We will also create opportunities using technology for more remote communities to receive high-quality training. These combined services will help us achieve our mission to build a framework for success. Schools and homes in every community will have access to educational tools.
