Cataract is the main disease that causes visual impairment. In a study conducted by the American Journal of Ophthalmoligy, it was identified that 52.6% of the cases of blindness were in older adults (FURTADO,2021). In Morelos, 45,903 people have visual loss (INEGI, Population and Housing Census 2020) and it is estimated that 42% is caused by cataract. The main causes of cataract are: age, lack of care and limited access to specialty medical services, (ACREC, 2023). In order to help the people who need it most, a socioeconomic study is carried out, this study is based on a deep, sincere and responsible interview, which allows to obtain enough information to know the person and his situation, it is intended to obtain real information about the socioeconomic and family situation of the users. During this year, thanks to the donors who donated through the GlobalGiving platform, 127 economically vulnerable people had access to cataract eye surgery. These people now enjoy a better quality of life in terms of visual functioning. On behalf of each of these people, we are infinitely grateful for the trust in our institution to positively change the lives of these older adults and to be able to enjoy a dignified life.
