Summary

Thousands of families in the Philippines have been displaced by volcanoes, typhoons, fires, floods, and Covid-19 outbreaks. Asia America Initiative and our partners provide emergency food, water, tarp shelters, blankets, hygiene, face masks, and basic health care items for 20,000 displaced families and first responders. Thus far, more than 10 tons of relief supplies have been given. Your donation will affect communities and inspire hope for the homeless.

Challenge

Many volcanoes are active across the Pacific Ocean Ring of Fire and will continue. The Taal Volcano eruptions in the Philippines have affected over 502,500 people. The Philippine government estimated that 73,000 school-age children were displaced. In June 2022, the Bulusan Volcano erupted . Fresh food, clean water, and shelter materials are still in short supply. Many roads are flood damaged. Various disease outbreaks and unrepaired bridges make it difficult to reach those in remote areas.

Solution

Asia America Initiative is working with local leaders, community organizations, police, and firefighters to deliver urgently needed goods and services to families who cannot return to their homes. We have already delivered more than four tons of food, blankets, and hygiene supplies. We are also sending support for an additional 20,000 families (or 100,000 adults and children) who are homeless due to flooding and fires in especially hard-to-reach areas in Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Long-Term Impact

Asia America Initiative is providing humanitarian relief to some 20,000 displaced families due to volcanoes and floods. We also send face masks and sterile gloves to firefighters and professional health workers. Relief supplies from the US, including food and hygiene items, are sent to the Philippines and distributed to refugee camps and health centers. Your donation will provide emergency supplies to families left homeless and give them a chance to rebuild their lives.
