Thank you for your previous support for this very important project. Beginning in January 2020, thousands of families in the Philippines had been displaced by Taal Volcano, typhoons, fires, floods, and now Covid-19. Asia America Initiative and our partners provided emergency food, water, tarp shelters, blankets, hygiene, face masks, and basic health care items for 2,000 displaced families and first response workers. Thus far, we have provided 4 tons of relief supplies for Taal volcano victims.
In the Philippines, the school year opening has been delayed for 4 months and the children are now due back to school in early October. Schools are preparing for back-to-school under Covid19 conditions and Asia America Initiative has been hard at work distributing PPE items such as masks, hand sanitizer, and face shields to teachers and volunteers in AAI project areas. Recovering communities are especially in need as many families are displaced from other areas.
We are currently waiting for clearance from the Philippine government to resume relief assistance to Taal volcano in coming weeks or months. In the interim we are providing local hospitals damaged by the volcano and rlated earthquakes with medical supplies and much-needed equipment.
