Volmoed is a retreat and conference centre in Hermanus, South Africa. The focus of its mission for the past 34 years is reconciliation, focused on racial reconciliation, and reconciliation within families or groups. Groups or individuals come for training programs, conferences on reconciliation, group learnings, wellness retreats, peace & to relax. Due to Covid-19, there are no visitors and no income. They are meanwhile raising funds to keep Volmoed going.
The trauma & difficulties related to Covid-19, experiences of anxiety, depression, fear, isolation, economic hardship; the realities of horrifying statistics of Gender Based Violence (GBV); the legacy of apartheid South Africa, mean that people need space and healing to deal with it all. Volmoed offers peaceful space and resources to help people with these needs but has had no income as no bookings allowed in Covid-19 times. Now Volmoed can open up in a controlled way but needs income.
Volmoed is now allowed to open up in a limited way for people in need of space, peace, healing, reconciliation, especially older people or those who have been isolated and lonely. The funds raised will enable Volmoed to pay the staff to run the retreat centre and to host programs. This will be a huge gift to those who come to Volmoed in need of refreshment and renewal and will improve people's mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health.
Potential long-term impact on individuals and society is enormous. The effect of Covid-19 & lockdown in South Africa takes a toll on people's mental, emotional, spiritual & physical health.By having income to operate & welcome people to this healing space, many will benefit and be able to function in a more healthy way, & once more contribute to society. It will have a ripple effect that makes the people of South Africa and other visitors more whole and healthy. What a wonderful gift to offer!
