Over the past 8years, Volmoed Retreat Centre has survived many challenges: wildfires, Covid-19 pandemic, & floods causing major damage to bridges. Volmoed has begun to recover. One of our greatest assets is our incredibly loyal, hardworking & friendly, caring staff - who take care of housekeeping, property, gardens, & the office. We want to pay them a living wage in these times of struggle for low-income staff trying to feed their families, educate their kids & deal with emergencies & crises.
The larger context of South Africa in past years is high inflation & increased costs of food, fuel & electricity. A big challenge is to pay our staff a living wage to afford these increased basic costs. Through donations, staff have received an increase in the past two years. This fund helps Volmoed give the staff an increase this year, & continue to pay them during the coming lean winter months when bookings are slower. Also to support staff during medical & other emergencies or crises.
Money from this fundraiser will help the Volmoed Trust to give the staff an increase this year. Also to pay living wages and salaries to staff throughout the lean winter months, when bookings are usually slower and cash flow can be challenging. It will also help to fund staff emergencies like unexpected medical expenses, car repairs and family crises.
This project enables staff members to earn a living wage and feed their families, and also be able to deal with medical, car and other crises when they arise. This builds staff morale and helps them continue their commitment to excellent work and provide a wonderful, friendly, caring welcome to the visitors and guests who come to Volmoed for rest, renewal and reconciliation programs. This helps Volmoed achieve its goal of providing a beautiful, peaceful space for those seeking wholeness.
