VYLTP Report for May 2022

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR GENEROUS DONORS!

The VYLTP Leadership Team met in person at the end of January 2022 for the first time since 2019, and it was a joy to be together for a weekend. We evaluated what in the program is working and what needs working on; we clarified what our VYLTP alum and volunteer, Mona Nerea Okello, would do during her six weeks here at Volmoed; we explored the idea of housing small groups of volunteers here in order to do more in depth, longer training.  We continue to follow up these ideas. Covid-19 has clearly been a negative impact on our program, but we are hopeful to hold an in person program before the end of 2022, even if it has to be shorter than our usual program.

Mona was here from the middle of March until the beginning of May. She was a wonderful first-ever VYLTP volunteer. She helped VYLTP to set up our new container office, build capacity, and develop our digital infrastructure. She established digital databases and set up our office phone and laptop. She also helped to recruit attendees and organize our Taizé youth day in April. We are hugely grateful for all her organizational work. Her energy and her positive,  friendly spirit have been a wonderful gift. Mona also spent time with VYLTP alum and Volmoed trustee, Siyabongo Vonco, who will continue the work that Mona has begun.

Our Taizé Youth day in April, brought thirty five young people to Volmoed, some of whom stayed overnight beforehand to help prepare, sing together, and welcome attendees. What a joy! The SACC Western Cape youth leadership met here on the same day, and joined us for lunch and some of our activities. We are excited to explore future joint activities.

VYLTP hosted another online course that trains young adults to analyze the culture and times of the Scriptures through the lens of privilege and power, with a focus on gender issues and patriarchy. It was hugely appreciated by the seventeen attendees who managed to attend all six sessions.

It has become clear to us that we need to pay more attention and focus on developing a core community of local young adult leaders in the surrounding areas. We hope to hire a part time local young person who will grow our local community of young VYLTP leaders.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year.  We are enormously grateful.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT AND ALL YOUR DONATIONS!

WE APPRECIATE YOU!
