Summary

Girls in rural Ghana often miss school because they cannot afford safe menstrual products. This project will support Amenuveve SIV Organization producers of Volta Pad and a women led social enterprise connected to Friends of Adaklu, to provide reusable sanitary pads, menstrual health education, and training for girls and women in the Volta Region of Ghana. The project will help girls stay in school with dignity, improve health, and create economic opportunities for local women.

Challenge

Many girls in rural Ghana miss school during their menstrual cycles because they cannot afford sanitary pads or access proper menstrual health education. Some girls use unsafe materials, like dirty rags leading to infections, shame, and lower school attendance. Period poverty affects girls' confidence, academic success, and future opportunities, especially in underserved communities in the Volta Region.

Solution

This project will help provide reusable sanitary pads- Volta Pad through Amenuveve SIV Organization and offer menstrual health education to girls in rural communities. Funds will support materials, sewing equipment, training, and outreach programs. The project will empower local women to produce affordable pads while helping girls manage their periods safely and stay in school with confidence and dignity.

Long-Term Impact

This project will improve school attendance, confidence, and health outcomes for hundreds of girls in rural Ghana. By supporting local women to manufacture reusable pads-Volta Pad, the project will also create sustainable income opportunities and strengthen community self-reliance. Over time, the project will reduce period poverty, improve educational outcomes for girls, and help break cycles of poverty for families in the Volta Region.
