Help vulnerable children go to SAMaritan Schools!

Three real life stories from children supported by SAM schools.

Every child has their own story.

Some children have lost their parents, other children have been abandoned by their father or mother or both parents. Their situation is one of desperation. There is no one to take care of them, let alone give them the chance to go to school and get an education.

Thanks to your contributions children can go to school! To our primary school, secondary school and vocational school. Each child is also given the opportunity to follow a vocational training. The children live on our campus. They get a high standard education as well as healthy nutritional meals, medical help and the love and attention that they so desperately need.

Let me now introduce you to 3 very different children:

M is a very cheerful little 4 year old. She has been through a lot in her young life. She does not know whom her father is. Her mother was raped in one of the suburbs of Kampala. She had fled from South Sudan and is now living with relatives. She has very limited resources and very little money. She lives on refugee aid and as yet has not found a job. This leaves her unable to care for M and her other children. M is now at the SAMaritan Day Care and Kindergarten school.

G: When she was just 2 years old her father died of malaria. Her mother could not take care of her properly and they went to live with her grandparents. After a while her mother met a new boyfriend and abandoned G, leaving her with her grandparents. G is now 9 years old and has never been able to go to school because her grandparents could not afford the school fees. Her aunt contacted our Organisation in Uganda, Children’s Welfare Mission (CWM), to see if we could help G. We couldn’t refuse and now G is a happy playful 9 year old again and she really loves going to the Samaritan Primary School and having lots of friends.

Daglous (he has given us permission to use his name)

He was born in December 2000. His parents died of HIV before he was two years old. His grandparents took care of him but could not pay for his education. They came in contact with CWM and asked for help. When he was 8 he joined the Samaritan Primary School.

He writes: “Hello My name is Daglous, I am 22 years of age now.

I joined CWM in 2008 in primary one, and in that period I learnt a lot and later in primary four in 2012 I joined the CWM children’s choir where we travelled in different parts of Netherlands singing and dancing, in the same year I met a beautiful couple who were interested in me being their sponsor child, I was so happy but at the same time really shy!

Later in 2015 I did my Primary leaving examinations PLE then I joined NSVS, the secondary school on the campus, where I did Art, Carpentry and Joinery and I also achieved my UCEs, then I was then given the opportunity to join YMCA where I did a 2 year course in Industrial Art and Design because that’s where my passion and talent lies.

In that period, I decided to make an abstract painting representing an African man playing a guitar , I gave it different fading colours in the background, because you can’t predict the future.”

(He donated this picture to us and it raised an amazing €360 at auction for CWM, that other needy children could he helped!)

 Message from the new Chairman of Kinderhulp Afrika (KHA) Xander Rijken:

“Right now my heart is bleeding. I read the story of G and then I think of my own children. They recently went back to school. How poignant to realize that G never had this chance. That hurts.

We want to give children like G a chance!

Together with you, our GlobalGiving friends and other donors! If this girl does not go to school, there is no future for her. The reality in Uganda is harsh. No degree means no work. How is she ever supposed to take care of herself and her family? It touches me... It feels so unfair. Fortunately, it's not too late!! 

I am very grateful that we have a primary school, secondary school and vocational school in Uganda, where G can go. I like to look ahead. Wouldn't it be great if in a few years' time she had a degree, was happy and had a bright future? I believe it can be done! Together with donors and sponsor parents who want to support this girl!”

Would you like to think about becoming a sponsor parent? For a fixed amount per month you make it possible for a child to go to school and receive all the care that is needed. For a child, a sponsor parent means a lot. Often, they no longer have a father or mother. You can therefore stand next to them. You will receive letters, emails and even videos from your sponsor child. You will see with your own eyes the impact your contribution has!”
