WAR IN UKRAINE: help children with cancer

Project Report | Feb 14, 2024
Stand united for children amid two wars

By Sofiia Kostenko | Specialist of Individual Fundraising

Dear Friend,

Hundreds of Ukrainian children are facing two vast challenges simultaneously today — the war against cancer and the war against the invaders.

February 15th is the International Children's Cancer Day. And we hope their voices will be heard as loud as possible.

Roma is six years old. He is one of those children deeply affected by two wars at once. The boy is from the Donetsk region, specifically from the frontline town Kurakhove. The beginning of the full-scale invasion caught his family at home, where they spent another six months. Even at that time, there was intense shelling in the city — several neighboring houses were hit.

Roma's family has undergone challenging trials over the past two years: the boy's older brother, who is defending Ukraine, was wounded at the front, and two weeks after that, Roma lost his mother. A few weeks later, he was diagnosed with blood cancer himself.

Thanks to the support of donors like you, Roma underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Now, the child and his father are living in an outpatient apartment in Kyiv and continue treatment.

The second anniversary of the full-scale war in Ukraine is coming. These two years were full of resilience and hope. Mainly thanks to donors like you. Please keep staying with the children like Roma and bring their long-awaited recovery closer, no matter what. Be their reliable support amid anxiety, fear, and uncertainty.
