This project aims at empowering 22 victims of GBV with professional's skills they need to produce knitted clothing for low-income families and children in Bubanza area. The fundamental goal is to foster empowerment through easing financial stress and developing friendships among them and other community members. This supportive and strong culture of resocialization will be the foundation of our project and our victims will be proud to be a part of it.
The physical and psychological harm, fears and threat of gender-based violence, limit women's ability to participate in economic, social and political processes that results in decreased productivity and reduced family income, noting that, 25% of women in Bubanza are sexually violated. Although significant efforts towards addressing GBV are made, poverty and socio-economic insecurity are one of the factors fueling it. This project will affect more than 10,000 people including women and children.
The project is about knitting garments of children, sharing knowledge and love in a supportive and strong environment. Through it, women will benefit on emotional, monetary and educational level through development of friendships and support, sale of their garments and by gaining knowledge of business management skills. Our hope is that, being together will foster their cohesion and the one of the entire community with which they will interact for sales and become economically independent.
