Food Or Pads? A dilemma for majority of underprivileged girls.How are you supposed to change your pads or wash your hands if you don't have access to a toilet and clean water? How are you support wear a pad, tampon or face mask if you cannot afford it? Menstrual health and covid19 have more things in common than you think. They both disproportionately affect the most vulnerable people, they both hinder women and girls from reaching their full potential.
Managing menstruation safely, hygienically, and with dignity is a challenge to most girls in low income families. This has been exccarbeted by the covid19 pandemic. All of these constraints can lead to poor menstrual health management and significant health and psychosocial implications for women and girls including social exclusion and vulnerability. There are girls who are having to make a choice between food and sanitary pads, can you guess which choice wins?
Girls are able to menstruate with dignity when they have access to safe menstrual hygiene materials. With it, she can avoid infection, shame, exploitation, early marriage and even trafficking. Your support for this project provides girls quality washable sanitary pads and important reproductive health, hygiene and safe spaces for managing menstruation.
This effects current and future generations of women and men, playing an imperative role in breaking the cycle of Period poverty. Communities are empowered to discuss and provide feminine hygiene, health and sanitation for themselves and others.
