Drop of Water will build two wells in two at risk Ethiopian villages, bringing safe water access and improved hygiene practices to 500 rural people and combating the spread of COVID 19.
Lack of water access is a profound challenge afflicting rural communities across Ethiopia. Each day women and school children walk long hours to collect drinking water from unprotected sources resulting in sickness, infections and hardship. Drop of Water will bring hope to rural communities by providing clean water access and improved hygiene practices, ultimately empowering at risk communities to fight infectious illness like COVID 19.
Reducing average hauling times frees women and girls to do homework, spend time with their family, or just be a kid. That's why we build each well within a single kilometer radius of at risk households. We then empower communities to take care of their basic hygiene by giving trainings focused on proper hand washing practices and sustainable handling of the water point, further protecting the community from infectious and transmission of viruses like COVID19.
This project will deliver a reliable source of clean water, bringing a direct impact on over 500 rural Ethiopians ,improving hygiene and saving lives. However, the greatest impact will be felt year from now when the girls who were free to school start a career or become strong community leaders, and role models for the next generation.
