The uniqueness of WAFA is to present silent heroes and share stories of how they have addressed their challenges and solved them with local, sustainable resources for communities that can be shared across the world. We want to acknowledge and reward pioneering projects in WATER, AIR and FOOD with at least two years of proven results. We want to give recognition and assists communities -through exposure for the finalists and winners of the awards to attract public attention, funding, partnership
Too many people living in remote areas are poor and forgotten. There are a lot of people who do a lot of innovation to help their community locally. But a lot of times, these people do not receive any recognition. They're the silent heroes. The silent warriors. One of the challenges when you're out there in a tiny village doing really good work, is that there's nobody to encourage you. A lot of times people just loose hope and inspiration to save their own livelihoods.
WAFA is doing everything possible to shine a light on the 'silent heroes'. Busy as they are saving their communities, we have gotten busy taking up their cause - calling attention to their ingenuity, courage, and commitment. What's needed is bottom up, local grassroots solutions - environmental, community-based breakthroughs. When WAFA shines light on them the silent heroes attract all the resources they need to scale and replicate their proven solutions.
Award Winners continue to grow because of the exposure and resources they attract when they win the WAFA AWARDS. Their impact increases. First their own community prosper. Then they share their solutions with other communities around the world who are faced with similar challenges. The recognition, exposure, connection and capital WAFA provides result in motivation, visibility, funding and partnerships for the winners. Millions of people have restored their livelihoods.
