Despite the paramount importance of water to human's life, not all people in Vietnam can access to clean water. The Water Ambassador project aims to improve the quality of life for local people and children in rural and remote communities in Vietnam through provide access to clean water and educating on how to save the water resource and environment. The project focuses on building or renovating water systems for local communities and schools and education and communication outreach activities.
Although Vietnam is a country with abundant river systems and plentiful water resources, only 46% of the rural mountainous population has access to clean water. Clean water sources in Vietnam are heavily affected by climate change, drought, salinity intrusion, contamination from livestock waste in rivers and canals, and pesticide residues in fields. The use of unsafe water leads to health consequences such as gastrointestinal diseases, skin diseases, and eye diseases.
The Water Ambassador program has been implemented to provide clean water to children in schools and households in disadvantaged rural mountainous areas in Vietnam. With the slogan "Clean water, healthy life," we hope that children and households will have access to and use clean water properly, be educated in water conservation and environmental protection, and have opportunities to improve their quality of life.
The program aims to build clean water facilities in schools and communities, ensuring hygiene and health for people, especially children, in mountainous, rural, and disadvantaged areas in Vietnam. The long term impact is create equal access to basic needs for all people and thus leave no one behind in the development process.
