In Khuoi Luông village, Cao Bo commune, access to clean water had long been a matter of serious concern for local residents. The 13 households in the oi 2 area, together with the village preschool, depended primarily on small streams for their water supply, sources that often ran dry during the dry season and became muddy and unreliable in the rainy season.
Following the 2024 storm, many of these water sources were damaged, further compounding the difficulties faced by the Dao community. On a daily basis, residents had to make great efforts to secure water for their basic needs, while schoolchildren were required to bring their own water to class. In this context, a clean water system represented not only an essential service, but also a source of hope for a more stable and dignified life.
From July to December 2025, with the support of the Water Ambassador project and its partners, the community worked together to establish a gravity-fed water supply system for the oi 2 area and the preschool. The project stood as a testament to collective effort and community solidarity: local residents contributed labor and materials, working closely alongside local authorities and technical staff throughout the implementation process. After nearly five months, the system was completed, comprising filtration and storage tanks, more than 3,500 meters of pipeline, 15 water meters, and a non-electric water filtration unit for the school.
Once the system became operational, it provided a more stable water supply for 55 residents, as well as for the preschool teachers and students. Daily life became more manageable, and hygiene conditions improved considerably, particularly during the dry season and in the aftermath of storms. Children now benefit from safer conditions for learning and daily activities, helping to reduce the risk of water-related illness. In this way, access to clean water has made a meaningful contribution to improving the overall quality of life within the community.
The project has strengthened a sense of local ownership and long-term sustainability. A five-member management team has been established to oversee the operation and maintenance of the system. After enduring prolonged water scarcity, the people of Khuoi Luông now have a stronger foundation on which to stabilize their lives and look toward a more secure and hopeful future.
Once burdened by the daily struggle for water and the uncertainty of each dry season or storm, families now have a stable source to care for their homes, hygiene, and health. For children, clean water means safer school days, better meals, and a childhood with fewer hardships. More than infrastructure, each clean water system strengthens community resilience and unity, as local people come together to build and sustain it. Joining hands with the Water Ambassadors brings clean water, renewed hope, and easier daily lives to highland communities.
