The orphanages in Cameroon have no way of preventing the spread of the virus, and many of the children don't even have access to drinking water. LifeTime Projects has therefore decided to act urgently to disinfect the orphanages, hand out hygiene kits to 200 children and drill a water well in one of the homes that currently doesn't have access to drinking water. An awareness campaign is being launched to inform the children and neighboring population on how to stop the spread of COVID-19
200 children in orphanages and homes in Cameroon currently have no way of preventing the spread of COVID-19 with their homes, schools and surrounding neighborhoods as they don't even have access to clean running water and basic hygiene kits ! Not only are they at risk of getting COVID-19 or other illnesses linked to the lack of water but also spreading it to their carers. Needless to say ressources are scarce for treatment too.
By drilling a water well, handing out hygiene kits to all the children (with soap, masks and gel made by the local women participating in our professionnalisation workshops), disinfecting the orphanages and also causing awareness amongst the children, neighbors and carers on social distancing and how to stop the spread of the virus.
The children will finally have access to clean drinking water and be able to prevent illnesses through basic hygiene. This will mean they no longer have to walk long distances (2km) along dangerous routes (with traffic and slippery slopes) to get water everyday. The well should also have enough water to be shared with local neighbors who currently lack running water too. Needless to say, this project is a contribution to the global fight against COVID 19
