Summary

USA for IOM is proud to announce our #GivingTuesday campaign for 2022, "Water and Warmth." We are seeking to support the delivery of important resources at an especially vulnerable time of crisis for the people of Somalia and Ukraine. Any funding raised through this year's Giving Tuesday campaign will support the Water and Warmth project. In short, the Project will effectively continue to provide life-saving support to millions of migrants in the midst of historic climate crises and conflict.

Challenge

As of October 2022, Ukraine has more than 6 million IDPs. Ukrainians across the country are feeling the effects of the cold approaching winter. In addition to the need to secure rapid solutions for an oncoming winter. Displaced residents are actively seeking resources to rebuild their places of shelter. In Somalia, citizens have been directly affected by historic droughts in the region after four failed rainy seasons. The need for supplies and continued assistance is growing at alarming rates.

Solution

IOM aims to provide direct, on-the-ground assistance to Somali migrants at risk of famine by securing access to water, food, shelter, medical supplies, cash assistance, and other forms of critical services to combat malnutrition, famine, and illnesses caused by those factors. In Ukraine, IOM is continually working with partners to provide the tools and kits necessary to prepare their damaged homes for the winter. This includes providing solar lamps, bedding, and family hygiene kits.

Long-Term Impact

IOM is protecting the lives of the most vulnerable populations including thousands of infants at risk of life-threatening disease and starvatiWith continued financial support, IOM can reinforce the more than 3,000 relief sites currently sheltering displaced Somalian citizenry. The long-term impact of securing warm environments and safe facilities in Ukraine's most vulnerable regions will support those Ukrainian families returning to their hometowns and beginning to rebuild their communities.
