Dear supporters, family and friends of Serendipity,
The last you heard from us, we were to start a pilot project on training of women in Kudundu Fawa Dango community on the skills for creating nursery beds, sowing seeds and processing of food crops for sale to the wider public; unfortunately we did not get an approval for a land that will be set aside for the women from the local council before our next report to you, however in order not to be discouraged and let down, we trained five women on the use of hydrophonic system of raising fodder for their poultry and livestock.
Through the provision of access to abundant water that we have with your support to rural communities in Kano, Serendipity is changing the lives of five women, their children and entire families with their poultry and livestock eating nutrious healthy fodder without the cause of wandering into other people’s farmland thus causing conflicts and rancor. It is also a means of reducing the cost of feed expended on these animals when they are not foraging. This ultimately will ensure economic advancement and development for Kudundu Fawa Dango community as the women will cascade the knowledge taught to them.
We intend to continue with such trainings for twenty other women in the same community and move on to other communities with a total of one hundred women trained by the end of third quarter 2018.
WASH materials were also distributed to these women and further taught on good hand washing practices and keeping themselves and environment clean especially with the case of a “suspected case of monkey pox” in a neighbouring local government council which however turned out to be false but better safe than sorry, we reinterated the importance of good hand washing practices. Over the next few months, our field team will put in place machineries to further strengthen the women on sustainability practices on hydrophonic farming and way of life.
Our pilot community which is Kundundu Fawa Dango will hopefully transition to the use of hydrophonics and the actualization of women using the provision of access to water and training to becoming empowered and assisting their families. This can be replicated in neighboring communities to help other women. Will you help them to succeed on this? Your donation towards provision of access to water in rural communities will not only help a child but empower women through the use of hydrophonics thus creating a source of income for them to assist their families.
