Dear Friends, Family and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation,

At Serendipity Healthcare Foundation, we know that sustainable change happens from the inside out. And Today, we want to introduce you to a true community hero who is helping us ensure no woman or child is left behind.

Meet our dedicated resident volunteer, Salisu Gadan in Gadan Tudun Fulani of Ungogo Local Governing Council, Kano.

Since January 2026, he has been our eyes and ears on the ground. With his deep knowledge of the local landscape, he personally identified the faulty hand pumps that were forcing mothers and children to trek miles for water.

Because of his diligence, we have successfully rehabilitated 7 hand pumps so far this year!

These aren't just repairs; they are restored lifelines. Thanks to his partnership.

Because of your support, these past few months water is flowing and lives are changing in Northern Nigeria:

Here is exactly what we acheived

700+ families have regained local access to clean water.

Mothers with disabilities have a shorter, safer walk every morning.

Waterborne disease risks are dropping as the "dry season" approaches.

Our Goal: We aren’t stopping at seven! With his help, we aim to rehabilitate one more pump before the end of this first quarter (March 31st).

Crisis and Hope for children to access water

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation

I am writing to share our latest Project Report: Crisis & Hope: A Project Report on the Urgent Need for Safe Water in Northern Nigeria.

Access to safe, clean drinking water is not a privilege; it is a fundamental human right and the cornerstone of public health and economic stability. In Northern Nigeria, however, this right is tragically denied to millions, leading to devastating health crises, including rampant waterborne diseases.

Serendipity Healthcare Foundation (SHF) is working on the front lines to change this reality through sustainable, community-focused water solutions. Recently, SHF successfully completed the rehabilitation of five critical community hand pumps, replacing old corrugated pipes, performing deep-level repairs, and immediately restoring access to clean water for thousands of residents.

This report outlines the scope of the crisis, celebrates the recent impact of the rehabilitation project, and issues a compelling call to action to secure the resources needed to expand our essential work.

We are proud to confirm the successful completion of Phase I, which involved the rehabilitation of five critical community hand pumps. By replacing degraded corrugated pipes and performing deep-level repairs, we have immediately restored access to clean, safe drinking water for an estimated 2,000+ individuals. This isn’t just a fix; it’s a commitment to their long-term health and dignity.

Clean Water

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters of Serendipity Healthcare Foundation

Serendipity's Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project continues to make strides in improving access to clean water for communities in Northern Nigeria. Recently, we successfully extended our reach to another community in Kureke Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA), marking a significant milestone in our mission to provide sustainable water solutions.

Over 3,000 women and children have directly benefited from our WASH project in 2025, with access to clean water, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene education.

Our latest intervention in Kureke Kumbotso LGA Kano has brought clean water to an additional community, reducing the burden of water collection and improving overall health and well-being.

Our WASH project is guided by a theory of change that focuses on:

- *Sustainability:* Ensuring that water solutions are environmentally sustainable and can be maintained over time.

*Behavior Change:* Promoting healthy hygiene practices and behaviors among community members.

- *Gender:* Recognizing the disproportionate impact of water scarcity on women and girls, and working to empower them through access to clean water and sanitation facilities.

- *Empowerment:* Building the capacity of local communities to manage their water resources and take ownership of their WASH initiatives.

We implement the same process of theory of change especially in empowerment of the youths on maintainance of the handpumps.

Despite progress, Northern Nigeria still faces significant challenges in accessing clean water and sanitation facilities. To address these challenges, we will continue to work with local communities, governments, and partners to:

- Scale up our WASH interventions to reach more communities.

- Strengthen community-led management of water resources.

- Promote hygiene education and behavior change.

Our WASH project has made significant progress in improving access to clean water for women and children in Northern Nigeria. With a focus on sustainability, behavior change, gender, and empowerment, we are committed to continuing our efforts to ensure that all communities have access to this essential resource. By working together, we can create lasting change and improve the health, well-being, and prospects of children in Northern Nigeria.
