Help a Child: Provide Access to Water in Nigeria

Dear supporters, family and friends of Serendipity,

Your generous donations have afforded us to train twenty women and distribute WASH materials in Tofa community as part of our target in training one hundred women in rural communities by the end of the second quarter of 2018.

A two months integrated programme on the cultivation of seeds into sprouts then fodder through hydrophonic system as well as hygiene education with distribution of WASH materials was conducted. The twenty women formed themselves into a group with the approval of the local community based organization got a one acre land where a shed was built for their livestock and the fodder they were to cultivate.

Through the provision of access to abundant water that we have with your support to these rural communities in Kano, we have been able to help the women reduce the cost of feeding of their poultry and livestock by 50% and though it is a new phrase for the animals, they are adapting well to it and the women are happier with this new innovation taught to them.

Safiya, one of the women trained on the use of hydrophonics says in quote “ I am ever so delighted to learn how easy it is to grow leaves from seeds using onlt water, I don’t have to own a land tpo grow food for my livestock” end quote.

We intend to continue with such trainings for  seventy five other women in various communities within the local governing council thus meeting up with our target of 100 women trained by end of second quarter 2018.

WASH materials were also distributed to these women and further taught on good hand washing practices and keeping themselves and environment clean.

We have worked in two communities Kundundu Fawa Dango and Tofa which has transited into the use of hydrophonics and the actualization of women using the provision of access to water and training to becoming empowered and assisting their families. This is to be replicated in other neighboring communities to help other women. Will you help them to succeed on this?
