This project will provide running water for Senitizo's maternal and child health center in the Central African Republic, as well as provide access to safe drinking water for the population in the immediate vicinity of the health center (roughly 500 inhabitants). It has three main components; digging a well, building a water tower, and installing indoor plumbing in the health center.
In CAR, easily treatable diseases and giving birth become deadly due to a broken health system. Thirteen percent of children in CAR die before their fifth birthday. One out of every hundred women die as a result of childbirth complications. Senitizo's maternal and child health center fills a gap in health care provision for 25,000 people who currently have to travel 30km to the nearest hospital. Before the health center can open, we need to ensure access to running water at the facility.
Without running water it's difficult to clean and disinfect the health center and ensure patients have access to proper hygiene. Once the well is dug, water tower built, and indoor plumbing installed, water will no longer be a barrier to providing health care to this underserved population, and the surrounding community will have access to safe drinking water.
Senitizo's mission is to sustainably strengthen CAR's health system and all of our projects are designed and implemented with the goal of achieving long-term impacts. Once the water infrastructure work is finished, Senitizo intends to operate the health facility long into the future providing life-saving maternal and child health care to an otherwise underserved population in need. We will maintain and repair this water infrastructure, as necessary, for years to come.
