Clean drinking water for households continues to be challenge number one the slopes of Juru Mountain.
We have now installed 151 rainwater tanks (5,000 liters each). All new systems include ceramic water filters, providing a more sustainable alternative to boiling water with firewood.
We recently signed a new agreement with the local savings cooperative (SACCO) to install more than 100 additional tanks this year. Financing remains a mix of subsidies from this platform and microloans provided by the SACCO. As the SACCO has just merged at Bugesera District level, we can now more easily expand the geographical coverage of the program.
Sustainable Villages Foundation manages supplier negotiations and coordinates delivery directly to beneficiary households.
