Access to clean drinking water remains one of the greatest challenges for households on the slopes of Juru Mountain.
To address this, we have joined forces with Caritas Rwanda to expand access to safe drinking water by providing additional 5,000-liter rainwater harvesting tanks together with ceramic water filters to farming households across Juru Sector.
Funds raised through this platform, combined with contributions from other donors, are used to subsidize the purchase of water tanks for families who would otherwise be unable to afford them.
At the same time, the local savings cooperative (SACCO), in partnership with Sparkassenstiftung and the Sustainable Villages Foundation, has launched a financing program for households that can afford the installment payments without subsidies. This approach makes the program financially sustainable and scalable, with the potential to reach households across the entire district.
Even within the subsidy-free program, the Sustainable Villages Foundation continues to negotiate with suppliers, ensure competitive pricing, and coordinate the delivery of water tanks directly to beneficiary households.
