In the second quarter of 2025, 30 households received rainwater tanks, most of them of 5,000 litre volume, and 30 ceramic water filters, in cooporation with the local savings cooperative (SACCO).
Sustainable Villages Foundation prepared the contract with the tank and water filter suppliers, supported the beneficiaries to build tank foundations and the piping system, and gave a total subsidy of roughly 1,000 USD for the 30 tanks and filters in this round. About half of the amount was covered by donations through GlobalGiving, the rest was topped up by funds from Sustainable Villages Foundation.
The SACCO provided microloans to the benefificiaries, who have to pay back in monthly instalments.
The tanks were installed before the start of the dry season, so that they were all full when the rain stopped.
Households use the water for drinking, but also for other purposes like irrigation.
We are preparing a next round of water tank deliveries for September 2025 after the dry season is over.
