Health and Education are basic rights for children and essential elements of development and effective poverty reduction. The Ebola Virus Disease impact on Liberia was devastating and affected every sector of the Society. A post Ebola recovery program is essential for orphanages who prior to the outbreak did not have Proper Hygiene Education, Water and Sanitation Facilities, Limited Sanitary Supplies and other challenges. The Project seeks to provide Education and WASH Station for 7 Orphanage
Lack of proper sanitation and water facilities coupled with inadequate hygiene behaviors result in a huge burden of avoidable hygiene-related diseases for children living in orphanages, particularly during this post Ebola era in Liberia. Many children in orphanages as well as those attending orphanage schools are vulnerable to diseases due to the lack of WASH Facilities and Education. The Project will benefit 734 children attending orphanage schools as well as orphans and staff in orphanages.
To assess the extent to which the proposed project remedies the problems noted above, it will be necessary to quantify the results to measure the project's effectiveness. The following are the project objectives: 1.Train students and teachers in WASH education, WASH facilities management, awareness and supervision; 2. Establishment of WASH Club in 7 partnering orphanages schools 3. Set up functional Hand Washing Stations at Partnering Orphanages
Effective and efficient WASH activities at orphanages and orphanage-run-schools; Improved WASH activities at orphanages and orphanage-run-schools; Build strong WASH team Active WASH Campus Ambassadors & Champions Remote WASH publicity across orphanages and orphanage-run-schools Have set up Hand Washing Stations at all 7 Orphanages
