Introduction

Way Forward After The Rescue Project was developed for girls who were released after they completed 18 years.  These girls either did not wish to go back home or their parents didnt want them back.  Each year on an average of 25 girls had decided to stay back in Mumbai and explore the possibilities of futher studies, jobs or skill training.  They were part of our Rehabilitation Program in our 3 Protective Homes in the State of Maharashtra.

Rescue Foundation had started a small Aftercare Home at Mumbai which could support these girls for a short interim period.

Health

Most of the girls were in good health, 2 girls were Living With HIV and took their medications regularly.  One girl had a 1 year old baby who was little malnourshied

School & College

7 of the girls attended scholl and 2 girls attended college.  Most of them were in between their examination when the Lockdown was introduced in end Mach.  They are still awaiting get back to their classes.

Vocational Training

Due to the lockdown Rescue Foundation was unable to get external trainers and encouraged in house or online trainings such as Zumba, Karate, Yoga, and Art Sessions

Jobs

5 of our girls who were working outside also had to stop going out.  They were encouraged to be in house trainers for other girls in our Homes.  We sent 2 of them to our Boisar Home to support the Team for in house trainings during the lockdown.

Contribution During the Pandemic

We are glad that our Major Girls from the Aftercare acted very maturedly and came forward to support Rescue Foundation to organize vocational trainings, yoga, karate at our Mumbai and Boisar Home.

Impact of Covid & Lockdown

Generally the girls who are part of the Aftercare are mature and getting into the mold of leading their own lives after release.  But due to the lockdown and fear of infection has impacted them severely.  The ones who left the city and decided to go back either to families and relatives were upset that they coulld not attend job interviews, outdoor training, colleges.  Others had to discontinue their education and decided to assist Rescue Foundation in managing the Shelter Homes in Mumbai and Boisar.

4 of our girls have proved leadership qualities by taking over the supervision of our Tailoring, Dance Classes very efficiently

One of the girls daily started sewing clothes for all the other girls during the lockdown.  Such strength and maturity from our released girls was very heaterning for all of us.  They truly are an integral part of the organization.
