This project will provide free, high quality, hands on, after school education classes for 70+ underpriviledged students in San Andres Itzapa, Guatemala to empower them with the skills they need to succeed and adapt to the changing world and to reach their potential towards a better future.
The Guatemalan educational system is low quality. Guatemalan students are not even learning the basic skills they need to succeed in the modern world and the cycle of poverty continues. For example, Guatemala has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the Western hemisphere and ranked 71 out of 81 countries assessed for their students' abilities in reading, mathematics, and science. Guatemalan students are at risk of not reaching their full potential and perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
For the 2024 academic year, we will offer the following free, high quality after school classes for approximately 70+ students: Elements of Art, Art History, Art Around the World, Saturday STEM and Montessori, and 1 month Vacation English classes.
We believe that where you were born should not determine whether you reach your potential. Unfortunately, we acknowledge that one of the main barriers which prevents Guatemalan children from reaching their potential is a lack of access to high quality education. Through our community learning center, We are the Future, we empower children in the community of San Andres Itzapa to reach their potential by equipping them with the skills they need to succeed and adapt to the changing world.
