Summary

Did you know when a welfare mom works, she is immediately cut off, reduced, and or experiences increases in her life-sustaining benefits(i.e. healthcare, food, and housing)? Uncle Sam will give her the world as long as she stays home and does nothing! Then our media portrays these "welfare moms" as lazy, apathetic leeches to the system! MOMS DON'T WANT WELFARE- THEY WANT WEALTHFAIR! We have taken to the road in a beautifully wrapped RV with a message of hope and liberation for families.

Challenge

Low-income moms who receive government assistance are penalized for working. As soon as a mom enters or returns to the workforce, the benefits she depends on to support her family (i.e., food, healthcare, childcare, formula for babies, and housing) are drastically cut, or lost altogether, leaving her no room to live. This situation leaves these moms stuck at the bottom, incentivized to at stay home and do nothing while receiving more money than if they were employed.

Solution

The tour will bring awareness to this problem so that policymakers and program administrators will take it on as a priority to address racial injustice when it comes to entitlement programs offered to poor people versus entitlements offered to wealthy Americans. We believe this project will balance the scales, increase incomes and ability to more affordable housing.
