November - February program report

By Kozue Oka | Executive Director

Here at Mirai no Mori, we had a event full of Autumn and Winter season.
After fun hiking and magical Christmas programs, we hosted 4 snow programs up in Niigata.

There are many situations in the overnight program that can challenge campers to work with ‘responsibility’ in a different environment than usual. In order to enjoy participating in fun activities in nature, we must take care of our own gear and equipment. We finish the food we served by ourselves. We clean up after ourselves. With the support of repeater campers and LITs, we were able to see them taking on challenges with a willingness to give it a try in many situations.

  • “I thought sledding was scary at first, but when I got my courage out and started sledding, it was so much fun and I sledded so many times and it was so much fun and 2 days went by so fast!” by camper
  • “I raised my hand to lead the whole LIT team this time. Based on my previous LIT experiences, I was able to challenge myself because I could see my strengths. There was some time of frustration, but I got to feel a big accomplishment at the end.” by LIT
  • “I was a little concerned about the campers who were joining for the first time this time, and I could see that each of them were overcoming things that didn’t go well and having some frustrations. However it was heartening to see how they never gave up until the end, no matter how hard it was.” by Big Camper

We also cerebrated our 10th anniveary in December, which was a perfect opportunity to reminisce about the past 10 years and to raise a toast to the dreams of the children we serve.
