Water for South Sudan News

By Elissa A. Rowley | Director of Development and Communications

Dear Friend,

There are lots of exciting things happening at WFSS! In this month's issue of The Wellspring, we update you on the launches of the Water Institute training session and the Women’s Empowerment Project and feature some amazing supporters who help make clean water projects possible.

Thank you for uniting with us to water the seeds of change in South Sudan. Your support helps make our work possible.

New Training Session Launched

Water Institute 2024

The Water Institute, a non-governmental training institute founded by WFSS in 2023, sponsored the second series of trainings at our Operations Center in Wau. The 11-day training session focused on developing workforce capacity in the water sector.

This project brought together six trainees. Four WFSS staff members, including one female mechanic, participated with the objective of becoming trainers for future sessions. Additionally, two local participants were selected to develop the capacity of the local private sector.

During the 11-day training, participants learned how to fabricate a rope pump. From welding to metal cutting to using a drilling machine, participants learned every aspect of fabrication and created a demo pump during the session. Watch the video here.

Women’s Empowerment Project Launched

Women's Empowerment Project

The Women's Empowerment Project, funded by an anonymous foundation and implemented by Water for South Sudan, marks a significant milestone in addressing women’s needs in the community of Udhum. It aims to create sustainable change and empower women to lead healthier, more prosperous lives through collaborative efforts and targeted interventions. Why We IGC March Schools

Each month leading up to the Iron Giraffe Challenge 2024, we highlight the educators and schools that have been instrumental in inspiring and motivating their students to support clean water projects in South Sudan.

This month, we recognize two outstanding supporters: Darlene Thiele and Nolan Doffing from SPARK Hybrid Education Center and Michele Villwock from Clark Advanced Learning Center!
