The water crisis in Afghanistan continues with nearly half the population struggling to have access to clean water. Unfortunately, three years of drought has caused water tables to drop resulting in some shallow wells to dry up.
We still receive more requests for clean water assistance than we can accommodate. At the end of the year, we received several requests from areas who had wells go dry that were provided in the past by other organizations.
Communities have reported that without access to clean water, families are struggling to survive, and there are widespread health issues.
One community leader recently told us,
"We didn’t have water to drink. Our water pumps never used to work. It was so difficult to find drinkable water and hundreds of families live here. We used to bring water from five hundred meters away. In the summer and winter, it was so difficult. Now AAFF dug a well for our community and now people are full of joy and people’s problems have been solved. Kids are bringing water to their homes and now whenever they need either summer or winter water is available. All our community is thankful to AAFF for hearing our voice and digging us a water well."
AAFF's clean water project has made a life-changing impact on the 17 communities that have received wells in 2024. These wells likely provide water for over 10,000 people!
Thank you for your generous donations on Giving Tuesday to help us reach our fundraising goals. Our amazing partners have made it possible for AAFF to provide our first well of 2025 for a community who lacks access to clean water.
We are grateful we are able to build hope with more Afghan communities in 2025 because of your generosity!
