The need for access to clean water in Afghanistan continues to be a struggle for millions of Afghans. Without access to water many of their daily needs for health and hygiene cannot be met.
Recently, AAFF installed several water systems for communities who previously did not have access to clean water near their homes. We estimate these water systems are supporting over 500 families.
To ensure the communities always have access to clean water no matter what happens to the water tables, we installed more robust systems that include an electric pump, a large water storage tank with taps, and solar to run the pump so it is not dependent on the inconsistent power.
In Afghanistan, it is not uncommon for the power to go out throughout the day and the cost of electricity could restrict the use of the pump. Installing, solar panels ensures that the water tank can remain full, and people can access water anytime throughout the day.
A community leader shared with us their struggle to collect water before we installed the water system, “Before AAFF installed the water system, we had difficulties with water. Before that, we used to drink water from a small, dirty lake or walk 500 meters for water. Thank you AAFF for digging a water well for us.”
