Summer in northern Afghanistan is very harsh with daily temperatures over 100°F and no rainfall. Having access to water in these trying months is essential, but often even more difficult to collect. Walking for miles in the intense summer heat is dangerous and challenging for the women and children who are often the ones with the responsibility.
This is why we are in the process of providing 3 more communities this summer access to clean water within a short distance of their homes. Currently, we are working with community officials to determine the best placement of these new water sources. We will soon begin drilling in the locations that are chosen.
Partnership with Afghan communities is essential for the success of this project. Communities understand their needs and can determine the best solutions.
Recently, we were contacted by a community that we had provided a handpump well for in the past couple of years. A businessman in the community wanted to support his community by providing a water storage tank for the well. He asked us to provide the installation service while he provided all the resources. We were glad to partner with him so this community can have even easier access to clean water.
