Thank you—we can’t say it enough! Because of your generosity, people struggling after catastrophic flooding across western Europe were able to receive meaningful support from trusted organizations in GlobalGiving’s nonprofit network.

The Western Europe Flood Relief Fund powered emergency grants to high-impact and vetted nonprofit organizations at the forefront of responding to this crisis. Here is a brief summary of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V is leveraging its coalition of 15 local aid organizations and community groups across Germany. These coalition members have supported evacuations, distributed food, and hygiene kits, and provided counseling services in the disaster’s aftermath.
  • German Red Cross / Deutsches Rotes Kreuz is activating more than 3,500 volunteers across Germany after the floods. The nonprofit is continuing to provide critical emergency relief to communities through its local chapters. For example, through its local chapter of DRK-Landesverband Rheinland-Pfalz e.V, the organization provides emergency funding to families with children starting daycare and school given the massive disruptions of the flooding on the students’ lives.
  • The European Food Banks Federation is mobilizing its extensive network of local food bank members across Europe to provide financial support, direct technical assistance, and food packages to communities impacted by the flooding -- specifically in the eastern parts of Belgium.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Western Europe Flood Relief Fund is advancing community-led recovery. It means flood victims received critical resources to help their community rebuild after the flooding.

This fund is now closed from accepting donations, but you can always support these trusted nonprofits by clicking their links in the copy above.

We also invite you to stay connected with our work through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and our Learn Library, where we regularly share stories about the incredible impact of our powerful nonprofit community. If you haven’t already,  subscribe to get periodic email updates from our team here

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
