In July 2018 heavy rains hit western and central Japan causing massive flooding, triggering hundreds of landslides, and displacing thousands of people. The dramatic summer weather did not let up. A massive heat wave and several typhoons delayed flood recovery.
Hundreds of survivors are still living in temporary housing or evacuation centers. Many homes remain damaged, leaving survivors to make the best of their small temporary homes. From September through November, Peace Winds has delivered supplies to approximately 800 families affected by the floods in temporary housing. The residents are grateful for the supplies, bedding, clothing, and kitchen items. These supplies are an important step to help residents move forward, replacing supplies and household necessities.
Peace Winds continues to monitor recovery of the residents in temporary housing and evacuation centers. Peace Winds also provides medical assistance to survivors who still need attention.
Peace Winds will continue to support long-term recovery for evacuees with counseling and relocation planning, as well as providing basic supplies, medical assistance, and community engagement activities.
We deeply appreciate your support of the Japan flood survivors.
