Challenge

Students in Wamunyu are eager to learn, but there are many barriers to their education including lack of instructional materials, no electricity or running water at schools, and poor health and hygiene. Schools have packed classrooms with few textbooks and no electricity, which means no technology. Teachers are excited about learning and improving their teaching, but lack the needed resources to accomplish their goals.

Solution

The holiday gift collection provides essential items to ensure a brighter future for our 17,000 students. Hand washing stations keep Kenyan students healthy and in school. Books provide literature and reading materials in a community with few resources and a huge desire to learn. Technology classes at the Kenya Connect Learning Resource Center are a life-changing gift for a class of students. This holistic approach ensures a brighter future for students in rural East Africa.

Long-Term Impact

Kenya Connect's long-term goal is that more students in Wamunyu continue their education by attending secondary school and then university so they can acquire gainful employment and become self-sufficient. We are also working to develop a generation of leaders who will continue to move Kenya forward. Our work educating 17,000 students and providing workshops to teachers will help this community rise out of poverty
