A campaign being promoted by Kole Intellectual Forum in Kole District, Northern Uganda
As the world struggles to cope with a new disease, one of the most effective tools to prevent its spread is also one of the most basic. Hand hygiene has never been more critical, not only to combat COVID-19, but to prevent a range of other infections. Yet, nearly six months since the onset of the pandemic, the most vulnerable communities and public places around the world continue to lack access to basic hand hygiene.
“According to our latest data got from World Health Organization states that: the majority of people in the least developed countries are at immediate risk of COVID-19 infection due to a lack of hand hygiene facilities. In the 60 highest-risk countries, the report says, 2 out of 3 people – 1 billion people in total – lack basic hand washing facilities with soap and water at home of which about half are children.
In the same report, it is also noted that: “All too often, schools, clinics, hospitals and other public spaces also lack hand hygiene facilities, putting children, teachers, patients and health workers at risk. Globally, 2 in 5 health care facilities do not have hand hygiene at points of care.
In relation to this revelation: Kole Intellectual Forum, that is a fact finding Community Based Organization; although with inadequate resources to procure and support all that it takes to promote Hygiene in Kole District Northern Uganda; the organization has identified public places (Public offices) and Health Centers and it has started intervening in them by providing to them liquid soap with expectation of saving lives of many people who come to them from COVID-19; by donating to them liquid soap, team of the organization are informing the beneficiaries to use the liquid soap for cleaning the health Centers, public offices and use part of it for washing hands since most of them have hand-wash facilities.
