Although the percentage of women holding leadership positions both in Uganda and across the globe, education sector and business field has grown steadily in the past couple of decades; but many research conducted by very many authors still reveal that: they (the women) still lag far behind the percentage of such roles being held by men in different positions. To them, many women still face a difficult to climb and reach leadership status in their companies or whenever they are working, and once there, some may struggle to overcome the preconceptions of colleagues and staff or a desire to prove themselves through perfection.
Kole Intellectual Forum has in its training of empowering girls (the tomorrow’s women) that: to be effective as leaders, they are ensuring women must embrace their unique capabilities and strengths, as well as be willing to draw on the tools and resources that any leader needs from time to time; by building a critical muscle of assertiveness; whether natural or unnatural.
More importantly, Kole Intellectual through its course outline is paying more attention to all the opportunities surrounding women, instead of beating the old, tired drum of sexism and oppression. While putting aside the old stories of our past that are blocking most of our endeavors to empower the women but rather to concentrate brighter stories that highlight girls’ (women’s) greatest potential.
Every morning at Kole Institute of Home Economics, girls are encouraged and made to remind themselves that: they are good enough to do something to lead each other (capacity building); like the girl leading morning assembly and they always do it in turns every day as well as in the lecture rooms and practical sessions.
