Raising awareness of a true environmental crisis in Uganda in relation to the Institute of Home Economics: Kole Intellectual Forum
Our environment faces several problems, and many of these seem to be worsening with time, bringing us into a time of a true environmental crisis. It is therefore becoming increasingly important to raise awareness of the existence of these issues, as well as what can be done to reduce their negative impact. Some of the key issues are: pollution; global warming; overpopulation; waste disposal; ocean acidification; loss of biodiversity; deforestation; ozone layer depletion; acid rain; and public health issues among others.
Even if it is so that we at Kole Intellectual Forum link to our course of Home Economics are of environmental concern; with the aim of creating awareness; the organization, on the other hand, finds itself participating on the destruction of the environment; because at certain point you cannot do it otherwise. For instance, deforestation that are greatly done in order to make space for residential, industrial or commercial projects including in small scale but more destructive than those mentioned above; particular in firewood and charcoal making.
Kole Intellectual Forum being a victim of such circumstance, specifically in destruction of trees that are helping them in getting firewood being used at the institute for cooking; the organization feels they should introduce their students on the environment conservation for a better tomorrow and take up action to raise nursery beddings around their new proposed site of Institute of Home Economics.
