Promoting real families’ project

As Kole Intellectual Forum promotes real families’ project couple with that of girl Child empowerment or self-reliance, the organization has taken the initiative to learn what is working out well in the traditional marriages, which is treated a union between two people that is always celebrated in accordance with the customs of the concern community. It is also known as a customary marriage.

How is it recognized in Uganda?

In Uganda, customary marriage is one of four types of marriage that are recognized by the law.
The Customary Marriage (Registration) Act defines a customary marriage as a marriage that is celebrated according to the rites of an African community.
One of the parties to the marriage must be a member of that community.

What are the rights and duties of the partners?

Marriage is a legally and socially sanctioned union.
It is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes.
These rules prescribe the rights and duties of the partners.
They also accord status to their offspring.

Who can marry?

According to the Constitution of Uganda, any person above the age of 18 years can marry.
