Dear friend,
The winter season in Afghanistan brings extreme cold temperatures that pose severe risks to vulnerable households, particularly those headed by women. Many families lack adequate resources to secure basic winter necessities, which leads to an increased risk of health complications, especially for children. A winterization project that supplies coal for heating and warm quilts for insulation could play a critical role in helping these families survive the harsh winter. By providing these essential items, the project addresses not only the physical needs for warmth but also supports the mental well-being of families who otherwise face uncertainty during this challenging time.
AfD - as every year - will be implementing its winterisation support project in Afghanistan. During the last winter season AfD was able to reach over 400 families (over 2200 individuals) by providing coal, food, medical service through a mobile health facility.
Access to coal as a heating source ensures that families can maintain a consistent warmth under sandal during harsh winters, preventing exposure to freezing conditions that often lead to respiratory infections and other cold-related health issues and even death. For children, who are particularly susceptible to illnesses such as pneumonia and bronchitis, having a heated living environment is essential to avoid these potentially fatal conditions.
Long winter nights with cold winds and snow are coming our way. Living with conditions where we can afford warmth, food, light and comfort usually disconnects us from the world where these issues are being considered luxery and impossible to attain.
Sleeping in a comfortable warm bed - often makes us forget what does it mean to sleep in cold, maddy, wet, half ruined rubble where the water comes in through walls and roof, and one cannot close the eye through night because of the thought of flooding - in case the rain will not stop or would get stronger...
Often in these situations women and children who are weaker would be subject to be left out and facing consequenses.
It is the time to put together our hearts and help eachother.
It is a part of humanity to support those who face difficulty.
By supporting AfD in its winterization project which will focus on providing coal and quilts this year, you can help families maintain a safe, warm space where children can play, sleep, and study without risking their health or life due to prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.
Kind regards,
